Physical medicine and rehabilitation is a broad field. As such, many focus their practice on
specific areas within the specialty while on occasion seeing patients within the broader scope
of the specialty. Also, maintaining board certification requires a breadth of knowledge that is
often beyond the scope of our day-to-day practices.
Handbook of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is designed to serve as a real-time clinicalmanual for rehabilitation providers and trainees. The chapters are written in a concise,
evidence-based, and clinically focused manner to provide a meaningful refresher for a practice
topic. This can fill in knowledge gaps for subspecialized providers who need to remain
up to date on general rehabilitation information, trainees who want an understanding of the
specialty, and those wanting a quick refresher in the process of maintenance of certification.

The book is divided into four sections: the first covers physical medicine and rehabilitationmanagement by diagnosis, the second reviews musculoskeletal management by body
region, the third discusses physical medicine and rehabilitation management by problem,
and the fourth will touch upon physical medicine and rehabilitation diagnostics, modalities,
equipment, and technology. These sections provide the day-to-day information that rehabilitation
providers need for clinical care delivery.
We edited Handbook of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to be a practical resource thatfacilitates remaining or becoming knowledgeable in a broad variety of topics and as a guide
